As much as I love to read, sometimes research really sucks. I'm taking a class next semester on the Cultural Stereotypes of Women in Literature, and it's both boring and irritating to see the disdain with which women have been treated throughout history. Doing research on fictional women just reminds me how lucky I got with my own, and I seek her out from across the room.

Julia is stretched out on the couch, a pillow under her head, and her feet in Remi's lap. Remi is sitting on the other edge of the couch, his laptop perched on the armrest, one hand controlling the trackpad and the other unconsciously rubbing his fingers up and down Julia's legs.

Julia has her iPad in her hands, with a look of consternation on her face, twisting the screen this way and that.

Curious.

"Hey, baby girl."

"Mm-hmm," she hums, not paying me a lick of attention. That catches Remi's curiosity, and he pulls his eyes up from his monitor, glancing between Jules and me. He lifts his brow and shrugs, not having the foggiest idea either what's going on in that beautiful head of hers.

Probably looking at a new artist online or something.

"Whatcha looking at?" I ask, still lying on the floor, but now I'm perched up on an elbow, watching the expressions cross her face.

She's biting on her bottom lip, her nose scrunched up in concentration. But her eyes light up momentarily, and her body does this little squiggle on the couch before she slips back into concentration, her finger swiping across her screen.

"Hmm?"

Her eyes flick to me, then back to her iPad. Her facial expression never changes.

"Oh. I'm doing research on sexual positions that require a woman and two men."

Ummm? Say what now?

Remi's the first to react. His laptop snaps shut so hard I half expect the screen to be cracked the next time he opens the lid. He tosses it to the ottoman, then crawls up her body, arms and knees braced on either side, attempting to look over the top of the tablet.

I'm only half a second behind, scrambling from the floor like a spider monkey on water, tripping my way over to the couch.

"Uhhh," Julia intones, as we converge on her, realizing the riot she's induced and laughing through closed lips. "This was unexpected," she chuckles, attempting to keep a straight face.

"Then you don't know us very well at all," I assure her, and Remi nods like a bobblehead, still angling to get a clear look at the screen.

"Anything we'd be interested in?" Remi asks conversationally, finger raised to tip the tablet in his direction.

"I don't know," she replies in the same tone, not quite grasping the rhetoricalness of his question. She's come a long way in the last five years of her joining with regular society. But social cues and sarcasm still fly over her head from time to time.

"We've done a lot of these positions already. Just variations of the 'you suck him while he fucks you' position.
